While finishing his MBA at Longwood University, Sloan Chittenden realized building a career in finance isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about the people behind them.

“I’ve always had a passion for helping others, and to be successful in financial planning means being truly invested in the client to help improve their lives,” Sloan says. “It’s not just the math or the money. This is someone’s life, and those of future generations. And we have to give our clients the confidence that we, as their partner and fiduciary, truly care.”

While Sloan pursues his designation as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, he is building his expertise assisting Verus’ financial planners, handling tax work, researching, and helping clients create plans for their short- and long-term futures. For Sloan, this work is personal, coming from a family where savings were scarce, and financial responsibility was not a priority.

“My goal is to take those lessons I’ve learned from growing up, and not only improve my own future but show others how to avoid financial mistakes and build long-term wealth in a sustainable way,” he says.  Money is a tool that can help or harm you, depending on the choices you make surrounding it. Sloan loves educating clients about their choices to create a successful financial future.

Sloan lives in Richmond, where he does a lot of fishing (a lifelong passion), watching sports (#BearsNation) and attending concerts.  He is also passionate about physical wellbeing.
